Catching up

Only a quick visit to M16 Artspace in Griffith. I remember this as the Griffith Library and before that it was Griffith Primary. Now it's a gallery with artists' studios and this was my first visit. It just shows you how much can go under the radar in a vibrant community. The event was an open day. Artists were in residence and displaying and chatting. There were coffees (of course) and sausage snags (superior: from Griffith Butcher) and local school bands. We caught Melissa Beowulf, portraitist, painter. Melissa has been hung in the Archibald shortlist and her painting of the White Mouse (Nancy Wake, New Zealand born, Sydney resident, served as an agent for the Brits in France during WW2, someone for whom you could seriously use words like courage and hero) is in the National Portrait Gallery collection. Also Thor Beowulf, bonsai expert and academic. Good to catch you both. (Di, sorry we missed you).
